Places100-Year-Old Theater Gets New Life As A Stunning Bookstore

If you love reading in a cozy place, make sure you visit Buenos Aires. There, you’ll find an old Argentinian theatre that has been transformed into the most perfect bookstore. The building dates back to 1919 when it used to host operas, ballets, movie screenings and more.

It once was a local movie theater, but in 2000, an architect and a publishing company teamed up to create a book-lover’s paradise.

The dim lighting, the box seats and everything that makes this place feel like an old theatre are still intact. Only now, those box seats are reading nooks. Wouldn’t you love to stay here for hours getting lost in history, getting lost in a book, getting lost in culture—I mean it!

It’s now called El Ateneo Grand Splendid, and it seems like a truly magical place to visit.

“If you love books this unique store is a must. The old theatre is for many years such an impressive bookstore that many visitors come to see the set up,” one traveler wrote. Another pointed out that there is an English section of books.

You can eat lunch while you’re in the store, too, because the former stage is now a café. If you weren’t already convinced this was a bookworm’s dream destination, now you are.

Sipping coffee while thumbing through books in a historic theatre? Not a bad way to spend a quiet morning or afternoon, is it?

According to Frommer’s the best time to visit Buenos Aires, weather-wise, is between March and May and again in September through November!

Don’t forget to add this book-filled hotel to your bucket list as well.
